Tomorrow is Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when emancipated slaves living in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free. First celebrated by African Americans in 1866, the holiday was originally known as Freedom Day. Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021.
