Community Outreach: The Debra Bingo Night

MetroWest Public Service Program

Public Service Officers Monique Shepherd and Brian Faer recently strengthened community relationships through positive engagement at a Bingo Night hosted at The Debra community. With more than 30 residents in attendance, the event created a relaxed, family-friendly space where officers could connect directly with neighbors while reinforcing the Public Service Program’s commitment to approachability and genuine community presence.

More Than Just a Game

The Bingo Night exemplifies how community policing thrives in informal settings. Rather than formal interactions, residents had the opportunity to engage with officers in a low-pressure environment, building the kind of trust that strengthens entire communities. Property Manager Doris Granger was instrumental in making the event successful, organizing thoughtfully curated prizes centered on practical needs and family support.

Prizes That Matter

The prizes reflected genuine community care:

  • Ready-to-cook meals
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Canned and boxed goods
  • Kid-favorite Mac n’ Cheese

A Collaborative Approach

Events like this don’t happen in isolation. The partnership between Public Service staff and property management at The Debra demonstrates how visibility, relationship-building, and community-centered service work together to enhance trust and quality of life. When residents see their officers engaged in their community, it changes the dynamic from enforcement to partnership.

What’s Next

The Bingo Night is just one example of MetroWest’s commitment to authentic community engagement. The Public Service Program continues to explore new ways to connect with residents where they are, whether that’s at community events, in neighborhood spaces, or through initiatives that put people first.
