A family-run barbershop in Veranda Park has become one of MetroWest’s longest-standing neighborhood hangouts, one haircut and one conversation at a time.
Walk into The Ultimate Cave in Veranda Park and you might forget you came for a haircut. There’s a pool table. There are video games. There’s a fresh cup of coffee waiting. And there’s a family that has been part of MetroWest’s daily rhythm since 2017.
The barbershop opened its doors nine years ago, choosing Veranda Park for its location and its strong sense of community. Diego Bastos was there from the beginning, handling the administrative side of the business. In 2021, the Bastos family took over the shop fully and has been building on it ever since.
“We worked to bring more of our own identity into the shop while respecting what had already been built,” Diego says. That meant improvements to the space, an expanded menu of services, and a sharper focus on the thing the family cares about most: making every client feel at home the moment they walk through the door.
Fathers, Sons, and Longtime Regulars
Most clients live in MetroWest or nearby, and many have been coming since the early days. Some chairs now serve two generations of the same family, fathers and sons keeping the same standing appointment. “Over the years, many of our clients have become great friends,” Diego says. “Those relationships are one of the most meaningful parts of our story.”
More Than a Haircut
The Ultimate Cave is family-owned and proud of it, and the atmosphere is built around slowing down. Precision cuts and beard care are the draw, but the relaxed, family-friendly space is what keeps people lingering. “We want our clients to enjoy their time here, relax, have a conversation, and feel like they are among friends,” Diego says. The pool table and the coffee are not an afterthought. They’re the point.
A Family Business, Near and Far
These days Diego is serving in the U.S. Army, but the shop remains a family affair. He stays closely involved in business decisions and day-to-day operations from a distance, working alongside his family and the team holding down the chairs back home in Veranda Park.
Growing Alongside MetroWest
Nine years in, the Bastos family has watched the neighborhood change around them: new residents, new businesses, and steady growth. Their plan is to keep pace, adding services and new options while staying true to what got them here. “Personalized service, a welcoming family atmosphere, and genuine relationships with our clients,” Diego says. “We look forward to being part of MetroWest for many more years.”
